Montgomery, Massachusetts is located
Southwestern Massachusetts, bordered by Southampton and Westfield on the
northeast and east, Russell on the west, and Huntington on the northwest and
north. Montgomery is about 20 miles west of Springfield, 105 miles west of
Boston, and 140 miles from New York City. Principal highways are the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate Route 90),
which passes by the southern tip of Montgomery, and U.S. Route 20, which
follows along the southwestern border in Russell. There is no passenger or freight rail service in Montgomery, but the
network of intermodal facilities serving Massachusetts is easily
accessible.

| The Town of Montgomery is a rural, residential town nestled 1050 feet above
sea level at the town center. It is in Hampden County and bordered on the
north by Huntington, on the south by the City of Westfield, on the west by
Russell and on the east by Southampton. Situated in the Berkshire
foothills, Montgomery's land area is about 15 square miles. First settled
in 1767, and incorporated in 1780, Montgomery was until fairly recently a
farming community. The population as of December 31, 1991 was 759. There
is no industry, but there are a few small home businesses consisting of
construction equipment companies, local artisans, family day care homes,
as well as a nursing home. There are no schools, no stores and no gas
stations. The children of Montgomery are students of the Gateway Regional
School District.
Municipal buildings in town include the Town Hall, library, fire
department, highway department and the Old Town House, an historic
building. They are located on a common with a small flower garden,
surrounded by woods. |
